Overview

The Minkiani Pass is less explored trek in Dhauladhar range but it’s a paradise for wildlife lover since you get a chance to see different species of Himalayan birds and if you are really lucky you get a glimpse of Himalyan leopard, fox or other wildlife species. It is also considered as twin to Inderhar Pass in the region of Dahuladhar range. Minkiani Pass is situated at the height of 4250 m. The trek is easy to moderate and unique and beautiful at the same time.

I did a trek with Manu and his team starting from McLeod Ganj, up and over the 4200m Minkiani Pass, and down into the Chamba Valley. It was excellent: one of the best walks I've ever done. The route was well chosen, going through beautiful valleys and across dramatic landscapes of rock and ice, and camping each night in spectacular places. Manu and his team were a pleasure to be with: friendly without being intrusive, and always willing to make us comfortable and help us along. A cup of tea, a good meal, or a rapidly set-up tent was there whenever we needed it. Most importantly, I felt able to trust the team with our safety - not just my own, but also that of my nine-month old daughter and her mother. The team were more than deserving of our trust: they got us safely across glaciers and down steep slopes, and didn't hesitate to go out in the cold night to put some extra rocks over our tent-pegs to make sure our tent didn't get blown away by the Himalayan gale. Adventures in these mountains are not to be taken lightly. But if you're going to do it, I would thoroughly recommend going with these guys. Simon Sharpe (UK/ living in New Delhi).
